Mable Wilkins born to Albert Wilkins 1873- 1921  and Harriett Ann Ward 1879- 1924
On January 2, 1897 Albert Wilkins and Harriet ward were married Albert is the son of Robert Wilkins and Ann Ferrell the father is still living in 1897 resident of Halifax County in AnnFerrell the mother is still living in 1897. According to the marriage certificate.

Harriet Ward’s parents are listed as George Ward and Rachel the father is dead in 1897 and the mother is living in 1897.

I found a George Ward who I believe is Harriett Ward Wilkins brother. They have the same parents that are listed on brother Georges Death certificate.

Albert Death Certificate has his father is listed as BOH NEKEIR his mother is listed Ann Ferrell.

The informant is Arthur Jones address Scotland Neck, North Carolina. Albert was buried in Kehukie cemetery. Albert was 49 years old when he passed away.

Per Albert—–To be honest I’m not sure about the information found on the marriage record and death record. The father name differ but maybe that is a African name. The mothers name is consistent. I haven’t found to much info. I’ve hit a dead end.

Albert 1873- 1921 and Harriett 1879-1924 parented

  1. James Wilkins 1897–1955

James died 1955 November 7 he was a truck driver in Halifax County city was Scotland Neck, North Carolina State. He was widow it is said his father is listed is Albert Wilkins and the mothers name is listed as Harriet Moore, Other records of the Wilkins children have the mother, Harriett and maiden name is listed as W ARD. I am assuming that MOORE on James’s Death Certificate is a typo. James is listed as a as widow on his DC, so I would have to find a marriage record for him. The informant on James’s Death Certificate is somebody by the name of Jack Wilkins. James cause of death was cognitive heart failure, hypertension cardiovascular, said he suffered with that for one year. James was buried at kehukie cemetery. Scotland Neck funeral home cared for his body.

James married  Mary L Clark she was born in 1899.  They married in 1918.  In 1920 Mary lives on 12th street in Scotland Neck North Carolina with her husband and parents, John and Hattie Clark.  In 1930,  James and Mary Wilkins still live with her parents (mother) on 226 E. 12 th street. After giving birth to my Grandmother she left my Grandmother in care of her Sister Hattie Wilkins James. Hattie raised my Grandmother until she was about 10. Hattie passed on and my grandmother went to Norfolk as a 11 years old to live with her parents Mable.

8. Clarence Wilkins 1913 – Clarence list on his marriage record that his parents are Albert Wilkins and Harriett Ann Wilkins

Clarence married a woman named Retha Anthony, she was born in 1917. I’m not sure how long they were married but he had children with a woman named Ella Baker. Ella and Clarence had two children Booker T Wilkins born in 1944 and Sylvestine Baker Mabry. My grandmother grew up with them in Norfolk, Va after moving from Scotland Neck.

10. Ruby Wilkins 1919- October 25, 1920

1920 census has her at 1 year and 7 months old.  Census was taken in the month of January 23 rd

Little Ruby, passed away before she was even  5 years old.

Albert, her father passed away in Feb 4, 1921 4 months  after his daughter Ruby passes away  of myocardium, the middle layer of the heart wall. Myocarditis can affect both the heart’s muscle cells and the heart’s electrical system, leading to reduction in the heart’s pumping function and to irregular heart rhythms.

Myocarditis is usually caused by a viral infection. Signs and symptoms of myocarditis include chest pain, fatigue, heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms.
If myocarditis becomes severe, the pumping action of your heart weakens, and your heart won’t be able to supply the rest of your body with enough blood. Clots also could form in your heart, leading to a stroke or heart attack.
3 years later Harriett passes away. I can’t imagine how hard it was for Harriett to lose her child and then her husband.
I’ve hit a dead end with the Ward surname for now.  I’ve also hit a dead end with the Wilkins line for now. I will return to it.
